Partnership

PCE + Caltrain

Faster, Smoother, Quieter, Clean Commuting!

A historic partnership gives you a modern, all-electric commuter rail experience powered by PCE’s clean, renewable energy.

“For the first time in the 160-year history of this railroad, zero-emission electric trains are running up and down the Peninsula, powered by electricity generated right here in San Mateo County. I thank PCE for their support and partnership in helping to make electrified Caltrain a reality.”

What Commuting by Rail Should Be

There’s an exciting development in Bay Area public transit. Caltrain is the first commuter rail service provider to go electric using PCE’s 100% clean energy! Caltrain’s new fleet is not just a sustainable alternative—no more diesel engines!—it’s a faster, smoother ride with more frequent service. With trains arriving every 15-20 minutes during peak hours at 16 stations and weekend service doubled, passengers now enjoy softer, more reliable commutes. Express trains will now travel from San Francisco to San Jose in under an hour, launching a new era of sustainable public transit.

Benefits

Why an electric commute…

It’s Faster

Modern electric trains are faster than the old diesel-powered ones. They have tons of torque to get up to speed more quickly, which makes for faster commute times.

It’s Smoother

With electric trains, the vibes are immaculate—as in nonexistent. Without the vibration of diesel engines, Caltrain’s electric trains give you a smoother on-board experience.

It’s Quieter

This also means our neighborhoods are more peaceful—no more rumbling train engines and bellowing exhaust pipes.

It’s Cleaner

PCE provides electricity to Caltrain’s fleet from 100% clean, renewable sources, so your commute doesn’t contribute to fossil fuel emissions. This also means no more diesel smells wafting through your train car!
