Case Studies

Here's what a typical EV Ready project looks like

Tyrone Properties added low-cost EV charging

“EV charging is increasingly important for rental units to remain competitive. In the past year, we’ve seen more and more prospective renters ask about EV charging, and we were losing business by not having charging available. The free assistance provided by Peninsula Clean Energy’s program was essential in my decision to install EV charging at several of my properties in San Mateo County.”

– Brendan Aiello, Property Manager, Tyrone Properties

PCE rebates covered 95% of the costs for Tyrone Properties to install 13 Level-1 and low-power Level-2 chargers for residents, with more on the way.

Total out-of-pocket costs were less than $150 per charger.

At one property, 100% of costs were covered by incentives.

FAQs

Questions & answers about EV Ready

The EV Ready program is PCE’s $28M EV charging infrastructure program that offers free, no-obligation technical assistance for PCE customers—in addition to $24M+ in project incentives, access to preferred pricing on EV chargers, and a trained Trade Ally network of contractors.

Through the program, we support your EV charging project from inception through installation.

PCE has hired CLEAResult to implement the EV Ready program.

CLEAResult provides free technical assistance to help you with all of your EV charging needs.

A “charging port” refers to equipment that charges one electric vehicle, either a cable with a connector or an outlet. A charging station may have more than one port. Your project incentive will be based upon the number and type of charging ports.

Eligible sites are multifamily buildings with four or more units, employee parking, and all other publicly accessible, non-residential locations receiving electric service from PCE.

Unfortunately, no. Single-family homes are not eligible for EV Ready.

However, you can explore our other residential EV charging incentives.

You can view the incentives here

Make Ready infrastructure refers to any electrical and construction infrastructure providing electricity to a parking space, but not installing an EV charger.

The most common situation where Make Ready infrastructure is employed is for preparing a parking space for future EV chargers.

Our incentive program provides incentives for assigned parking in multifamily buildings.

CALeVIP and Charge! Incentives currently require shared parking.

EV Ready program technical assistance can help you to evaluate the most applicable incentive program(s) for your building.

Although EV Ready focuses on Level 1 and power-managed Level 2 charging, we also support DC fast charging on an as-needed basis. Please review the DC fast charging eligibility requirements at CALeVIP.

We’ll consider extensions on a case-by-case basis.

We designed EV Ready technical assistance to address the most common EV charging project delays and prevent installation issues.

No, public availability will not impact your incentive amount.

Various factors, such as typical parking duration, existing electrical infrastructure, and parking layout, must be considered when determining the best charging type and quantity for your property.

EV Ready technical assistance can help you analyze these factors and make an informed decision.

Yes, EV Ready technical assistance can help you explore the various options and structures that would be the most applicable to your unique situation.

You can submit your application for EV Ready incentives via our online EV Ready Portal as a tenant.

Please note that the property owner or authorized representative will need to provide permission for the program to provide services.

We sure can.

There are multiple incentive programs that you may be eligible for.

Each has its own set of application requirements.

EV Ready technical assistance can help you consider all of your needs and help you choose which incentives are best for you.

It’s important to note that access to EV charging incentives is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Your project’s duration will depend on various factors, including your site’s current infrastructure, electric service capacity, and project scope.

If additional electrical capacity is needed, it may take 12-18 months for PG&E to fulfill that request. When infrastructure is in place, EV charging typically takes less than 60 days to install.

EV Ready strives to address the most common project planning delays through its free technical assistance service.

Our approved contractors have experience serving the local San Mateo County area and have the capability to help projects run as smoothly as possible.

No, EV Ready-approved contractors install the chargers, or you can use your own electrical contractor.

We provide access to those contractors, as well as technical assistance, incentives, and volume pricing.

No, we don’t own any chargers installed through the EV Ready program.

We help you get them at a lower price, and we provide access to technical assistance and contractors to minimize the cost and hassle of installation.

The Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) is designed to decrease the carbon intensity of California’s transportation fuel pool and provide an increasing range of low-carbon and renewable alternatives, which reduce petroleum dependency and achieve air quality benefits.

Credits are generated by delivering electricity (kW) to vehicles at EV charging ports.
