Power Sources – Project details

See where your electricity comes from

At PCE, we are dedicated to sourcing electricity from projects that move us toward our community’s sustainability goals. We’re especially proud to partner in building new renewables—like solar and wind—and pairing them with battery projects that provide reliable and fossil-free electricity for our customers.

Project Map

Peninsula Clean Energy partners on innovative wind, solar, small hydro, geothermal, and energy storage projects that deliver clean electricity and enhance grid reliability. Through mid and long-term procurement contracts lasting several years to decades, we support the construction of new renewable energy and storage facilities while ensuring a sustainable and affordable supply of clean power for our community. These projects, including large-scale wind farms in New Mexico and solar-plus-storage installations in California, not only meet customers’ electricity demands, but also strengthen the grid by providing clean and reliable capacity during peak periods.

Chaparral Hybrid Solar + Storage

Status: Operational

Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) has a 15-year agreement with Leeward for Chaparral, a 102 MW solar and 52 MW / 4-hour hybrid battery storage project, a portion of a larger project located in Kern County, CA. Chaparral is PCE’s first hybrid solar + storage facility to become operational. It provides the flexibility to shift solar generation to evening load peak hours, contributing to PCE’s 24/7 hourly renewable matching goal.

Arica Co-located Solar + Storage

Status: Operational

Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) has a 17-year agreement with Clearway for Arica, a 100 MW solar and 50 MW / 4-hour co-located battery storage project, a portion of a larger project located in Riverside, CA. For the first two years of the agreement, the project only provides resource adequacy benefits to PCE. Starting in 2026, the project will deliver a range of energy products to PCE, including resource adequacy, solar generation, ancillary services, and energy arbitrage. It will provide the flexibility to shift solar generation to evening load peak hours, contributing to PCE’s 24/7 hourly renewable matching goal.
